How Smart is the Republican Idea to Cut Welfare by 4 Trillion During a Recession with 10% unemployment?

How smart does that one pan out for you folks

good idea

great idea

bad idea you tell me|||Creating more poor people is how other people get richer.|||There was a time in this country when families and friends took care of one another during hard times. They would help the person get over a set back. The government stepped in and created a bunch of lazy, no good, non-contributing, generational leeches on society who have learned to work the system and collect billions by way of fraud. Cut it all out. People will either get up and get their life in order or sit under an overpass.|||Do you have a link? The health care bill already cut Medicare by a half trillion plus didn't pass the doctor fix. I'm sure there is a lot of fraud within the food stamp program, welfare, and really all programs offered by the government. Even in defense. It was reported this morning that we were charge $9500 for a part that cost $183.00 from contractors in Iraq. There are many incidents of this. We are being robbed in every sector. Government is so inefficient that if we were really their bosses, we would fire them all. Back to the question, I haven't heard of any plan that actually cuts $4 Trillion from anything at all.|||I am so SICK of that lie that 47% of Americans pay no taxes. It's like parrots repeating phrases they've learned. Those people don't pay INCOME taxes because they DON'T MAKE ENOUGH MONEY. They pay property taxes, car taxes, sales tax, FICA, and SSDI taxes. Meanwhile, the rich pay an effective rate of about 15%, HALF of what middle income taxpayers pay.

And of course it's stupid to cut welfare during a recession. This economy is 70% consumer driven. Most consumers don't have discretionary income. That's why we're in a recession.|||It's better to have 200 million people paying taxes than a few hundred rich people.

Tax revenue would be much higher if everybody paid their fair share.

47% of Americans pay no taxes - that's a lot of people bogging the system down.

What's wrong with the free-loaders chipping in a measly 2% - is that too much to ask?|||There are no single 4 trillion dollar cuts in any program but I'd bet that welfare payouts could be slashed in 1/2 buy eliminating fraud and even better making those who receive welfare attend job training and get passing grades as well as do some kind of community service in order to get their checks.|||Hard to tell

You tell me where the 4 trillion is going to come from during a recession, lower tax revenues for the government and people out of work and not able to pay taxes to support the welfare bills.|||It is not a good idea but unfortunately we have a tendency to overspend when times are good so it makes it harder to increase spending during recession..|||Are you saying that everything the government spends money on is welfare?

That's enough to discount your point entirely.|||Ask Obama, he's the one with 10%+ unemployment on his watch...the man is a disgrace to the office he holds and to America!!|||The real question: how smart is it to continue welfare year after year to people.|||Its a fabulous idea.|||It's so easy to forget......A government for the people by the people.|||No. Yet 51% of the American households paid no income tax in 2009. %26lt;-FACT by Politifact|||You might wanna check your numbers if you think you know who "the smart one" is|||Your number is bogus.|||I know lets Tax the Rich and Middle Class so as to keep em on Welfare!!!!!!
